Goodness Through Healing
We have ministered too Bill for years. Bill’s son, Adam, had been diagnosed with several types of cancer and was given 6 months to live by doctors. Bill was not a Christian and decided to take Adam to a large party and give him the opportunity to have a “good time” and ‘become a man.” God had a different plan. Adam encountered the power of our almighty God when the Lord healed him of cancer after they asked for prayer. Bill acknowledges that God healed Adam. As a result, we have been able to share the Gospel with Bill.
“Gospel” means good news. The gospel of Jesus Christ is good news to the lost, broken hearted, poor and sick. As Christians, we are to give them the good news. We are to share with them that God had made a way for salvation and that he loves them and died that they may live in His goodness.
Bill introduced us to his brother, Steve. Steve was very distant and cold to the things of God. Bill had no desire to fellowship with us. After 4 years, Bill and Steve’s dad was submitted to the hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. The doctor’s report was not good. He resided in the hospital for 2 weeks. Shara and I visited the family at the hospital. We took food to the family and most important, the Spirit of Peace. We would laugh, pray and listen to their family stories. Their dad died in the hospital. We asked what we could do for them and they requested that we honor their dad with a blood drive. They desired to replace the blood that had been utilized to keep their dad alive during his stay at the hospital.
While we arranged for the blood drive, the Lord opened up Steve’s heart. He was given a Bible at the blood drive. As a result, Steve purposed in his heart that he was going to do things differently in his life. He began to make changes in his life that left him without an income. Steve applied for many jobs. It had been months and there was no job on the horizon. The economy was not great and the desire to hire a man from a life of crime was not on most companies’ requirements list. Due to little income and no job, he was about to loose his house and began to consider going back to his old trade. He called upon God for a job. The next day, Steve submitted an application to a company along with 200 applicants where there was only one opening. He got a call back. This call back required him to take a test of which he had no education. Once again, he called upon God for favor. We prayed with him asking God for wisdom and to quicken his mind in preparation for the test. God helped him learn what was required in a short period of time. Some of the requirements were items taught in college. Steve had not received a GED or high school diploma. We got an exciting call from Steve that he had passed the test and was told he would be hired for the job but was not sure if he would start in 2 weeks or 6 months. He reached out to God again and was called into work the next week. He is making more money than he has ever made before and he is happier than he has ever been. God is Faithful and will do the same for you.
The Testimony of Lisa and George
We first met Lisa about 9 years ago. Lisa is a very outspoken lady who came from a family that believed in God. Lisa and Shara developed a special bond united by God. Lisa opened her heart to Shara and asked about the Lord. This would repeat itself over the next few years.
Shara and I were seeking how we were to reach out to Lisa and George. He gave us a leading that we were to invite them into our home. God directed us to pay for their expenses including airfare, meals and entertainment. We were to show them the best of the city and love on them the entire time they were in our home.
Rom 2:4 states “Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?”
God instructed us not to have any requirements on them while they visited. If they wanted to drink, that would be ok. If they wanted to smoke, that was fine too. We were not to force them to attend church with us. We were to love them where they were. We weren’t to provide drinks or cigarettes, but if they chose to obtain them, we would not judge. No one has ever gone to hell for drinking, only lack of reconciliation with Jesus, our Master. When they came to our home, they never drank and if they smoked, it was outside. They attended church with us and gave their lives to the Lord. Glory to God! The next year, we were once again led to provide an all expenses paid trip Branson. What God can do in a year!!!! Lisa and George are now reading Brother Copeland’s daily devotional called Faith to Faith. They read this during their daily “story” time along with the Bible and then discuss what they read for over for an hour. Every few days I get a call from Lisa and she asks me questions about the Word of God. She says, as a result of the Faith to Faith, she doesn’t have to read her horoscope anymore. She recently quit drinking and is purposing to quit smoking.
Lisa and George visited us again this month. We were able to baptize Lisa. George has asked to be baptized in January.
I encourage you to consider the good things God has done in your life over the past year and give Him thanks.
